FAQs

Do I even need therapy?

It depends. Have you met all your goals for yourself? Are you satisfied with the quality of the relationships you’re building? Are you able to tap into your strength and resilience when life is throwing you lemons?  If the answer to any of these questions is no, then therapy may be a wonderful opportunity for you to find a dedicated space to work on increasing your happiness, health, and wellbeing.

How do we begin if I’m interested?

Contact me, and we can set up a time for a free 15 minute consultation in order to assess if this is a good fit for you. We can talk about what you’re dealing with, what you’re looking for, my approach, and any questions that come up, and make a plan for going forward, whether that’s scheduling a session or discussing referrals.

Is online therapy safe? Can I work with you from anywhere?

I am using secure and HIPAA compliant platforms that take your privacy very seriously, and if you’re also able to join from a private and secure space, therapy from the comfort of your home is safe. I am licensed in Maryland and can see clients from across this state at this time. I will have an office in Gaithersburg, Maryland in the future, and we can discuss the possibilities of in person therapy as well.

What are your fees?

I charge $220 for the intake, and $200 for each proceeding individual 50 minute session. I charge $250 for the couple intake, and $220 for each 50 minute couple session after that. I hold a limited number of sliding scale spots, which we can negotiate based on need and availability! I am currently accepting all major credit cards.

Do you accept my insurance?

No, this is a fee for service practice. I feel that this decision allows me to offer therapy in a strengths based manner and allows me to protect confidentiality closely, particularly for couples.

I can provide you with the paperwork to submit to your insurance company to potentially pursue reimbursement for a portion of our sessions. If you’d like to check if you have out-of-network coverage and are eligible for reimbursement, please ask your insurance company the following questions:

1- Do I have out-of-network benefits for mental health or behavioral health treatment?

2- How much do I pay in co-insurance? You’re asking this to assess the amount you are responsible for. Your insurance company will reimburse you for the rest, commonly 60-80% of the session cost.

3- Do I have an out-of-network deductible to meet before I am eligible for reimbursement? If so, how much of that deductible has been met?

4- What is the usual and customary rate covered for outpatient psychotherapy? The CPT codes I use are  90791 for the intake, 90837 for individual therapy, and 90847 for couples therapy.

What about the No Surprises Act?

In accordance with federal law, I will provide self-pay clients with a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) prior to their first appointment and as necessary to best reflect the current treatment plan. Per the law:

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
